City:
Litchfield is a home rule charter city. It was incorporated in 1872. The first charter was adopted in 1943. The City Council consists of a mayor and six council members. All powers of the City are vested in the Council. The City Administrator is the Chief Administrative Officer and is responsible for the day to day operations of the organization.
The Mayor is elected every four years. Council members are elected every four years, three persons every two years. Council members also serve on various committees, commissions and boards such as the Planning Commission, Airport Commission and Library Board, to name a few.

Meeker County, Minnesota, is located approximately one hour west of Minneapolis. Our population is approximately 23,250, covering 610 square miles. Government offices are housed in the County Courthouse, the Family Services Center, and the Law Enforcement Center in the county seat of Litchfield.
